Peregrines killed – pigeon fanciers to blame?

Two peregrine falcon nests in the West Midlands have been attacked in the past two weeks.

A male was found in a trap in Cannock, Staffordshire, two chicks were rescued and the mother is feared dead.

Officers also found three spring-traps set around a nest at a quarry near Kingswinford, West Midlands, and discovered two eggs smashed.

The RSPB have put up a £1,000 reward and said that the chicks were being looked after in a rescue centre.

It is believed that pigeon fanciers are responsible for the attacks. It is illegal to kill or harm birds of prey, and it is an offence to intentionally, or recklessly, disturb peregrines whilst they are nesting.

Pigeon fanciers are responsible for the plagues of those disgusting feral pigeons found in town centres across the country. Many of these birds are ringed, meaning that they were domesticated racing birds. The mass releasing of thousands of vermin has a detrimental effect, and the fact the misguided people insist on feeding this vermin makes the problem even worse.
