Scotland could find itself facing a drugs “Doomsday” in which children as young as primary school age follow their parents into drugs use, a leading professor has warned.
Prof Neil McKeganey of Glasgow University said a massive refocusing of priorities was needed to stop the problem spiralling out of control.
He called for addicts to be rehabilitated properly rather than just being given methadone.
The Scottish Government will launch a new drugs strategy today.
