A man has been arrested after scaling the perimeter fence at Heathrow and running onto the runway.
The man, described as being Asian or Arab, was carrying a rucksack. He removed his shoes before climbing the fence.
Armed police surrounded the man, and a controlled explosion was carried out on the rucksack. No trace of explosives were found.
The runway, identified as 27R, was closed, though the airport’s other runway remained open.
Terminal five is due to be opened by the Queen today.
