Martin McGuinness said he would have killed every British soldier in Derry after the Bloody Sunday shootings.
McGuinness, the Deputy First Minister, was being interviewed on RTE television when he made the comment. He said that Republicans’ attitudes “hardened considerably” after the shooting dead of 13 people.

Villagers in Witcombe, Gloucestershire, are fighting to keep their Post Office.
The Post Office says there are “too many” branches in Gloucestershire, and some will have to close. Currently, there are plans to close 39 branches.

Campaigners are opposing plans to extend Exeter Airport, which would see the facility catering for an extra two million passengers by 2030.
Airport chiefs,and airlines, claim the plan will be good for the economy, and said that, compared to trains and cars, emissions from aircraft were low.
