The site of a battle, fought on the outskirts of York in 1066, is to be turned into a housing estate.

Burton’s Foods has announced it is ending production at its site in Moreton, Wirral.
The company, which makes Cadbury’s chocolate biscuits, will continue making other products. Up to 660 jobs will be lost, a decision the company described as “regrettable”.

The Land Registry has announced it plans to close its York office with the loss of more than 100 jobs. The office will close in 2010.

England’s highest pub, the Tan Hill Inn in North Yorkshire, has won its battle with American fast food giant KFC over the use of the term “family feast”.

A shop in Whitehaven has started stocking Polish groceries to cater for the ever-increasing Polish population of Cumbria.
